Board Member Aristotle Jorge Gaza, or simply Aris, appreciates the value of time so much the he himself can be a good role model for it.

A resident of #1 Burgos St., National Road, Hermosa, Bataan for more than thirty years, Aris, a certified bachelor still lives with his family – his mother Raquel, his father Angelito, and his five younger siblings.

Talking about education, this man really loves to learn. He studied in Hermosa Elementary School for his primary education, Jose Rizal Insitute in Orani, Bataan for his secondary education, San Beda College for his undergraduate studies, University of Santo Tomas for his graduate studies, National Defense College of the Philippines for his masteral degree, and Command and General Staff College of the Philippines in which he graduated last month for a masteral degree in public management. “Masarap nag-aaral eh, continuous learning,” Aris pointed out.

With a background in Commerce, his first option after graduating in college was to work in a bank to practice what he has learned. But the common questions after graduating struck him, “what is your motivation? Either you want to earn money or get experience.” With no intention of working in Manila, and banks during that time, especially in the province, has a low rate, he ended working in a fast food chain, because that was the time when different names in the fast food industry arose.

After that, Aris served as a councilor in the municipality of Hermosa, then as vice mayor in the same municipality and finally, he became a member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

A board member, as he explains, looks at the work of legislation on the side of the province. Since the start of his career, he has been engaged in that kind of work, he just brought his experience from the municipality to the province on a wider scope. “As such, that’s the main responsibility of each and every member of the board, to perform your function as a head of a certain committee and at the same time a member of the different committees,” he added.

On his first term, he chaired the committees on health, transportation, and tourism. He chaired the committees on health, tourism, and rules on his second term. Now on his third term, he chairs the committees on tourism and rules.

Aris doesn’t stop on handling only those multiple committees, but while working in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, he also works part-time in the academe. He teaches in the College of Commerce at the University of SantoTomas.

When asked what motivates him in working hard every day, he answers, “’yung panghihinayang sa oras. Kasi mahalaga ‘yung oras di ba? Ang hirap i-imagine ang sarili mo na natatapos ‘yung araw at walang na accomplish.”

It is crystal clear to him that they are only good to serve the office for three years and he said that it is a waste of time if after that, you didn’t accomplish anything. “As much as possible, ‘yun ang nagtutulak sa’yo dahil alam mo, habang tumatagal, nauubos ang iyong oportunidad para gawin ang gusto mong gawin,” he reiterates.

Other than being a board member and a teacher, he is involved in a local bank as one of the board members. He is also engaged in farming, and he continues his studies from time to time.

This man, as a disciple of time, doesn’t waste any second of his life. His roles in his multiple careers are perfect examples of the popular saying, “you only live once.”
