PROVINCE OF BATAAN CELEBRATES TOURISM MONTH

The Provincial Tourism Office spearheaded the celebration of Tourism Month with a theme, “Tourism for All, Promoting Universal Accessibility!” Various activities were lined-up that made the celebration enriching and notable. The first one was the Assembly of Resorts, Restaurants and Hotel Owners in Bataan which also aims to encourage new members and strengthen the existing organization of Bataan Hotel and Restaurant Owners Association (BHROA) held last September 07, 2016. Seconded by the Marketing Seminar for the Tourism Stakeholders and Local Government Units (LGUs) of Bataan facilitated by the Department of Tourism Region III last September 15.

The highlight of the celebration was the search for Miss Bataan 2016 Coronation Night held last September 25, 2016 at the Bataan People’s Center. The newly crowned Miss Bataan 2016 and Ambassadress of Tourism and the Environment is Ms. Princess Ericka Tecson of the Municipality of Pilar, followed by Ms. Charlene Versoza of Mariveles, 1st Runner-up and Ambassadress of Investment and Industries; Ms. Gean Ariane Ponce of Dinalupihan, 2nd Runner-up and Ambassadress of Health and Education; Ms. Czarina Tolentino of Bagac, 3rd Runner-up and Ambassadress of Culture and the Arts; and Ms. Rojin Grace De Silva of Samal, 4th Runner-up and Ambassadress of Youth and Sports.

The second activity was the Educational Tour last September 27 – 29, 2016 at the Mt. Samat Shrine of Valor and Bataan Tourism Center (BTC). It was participated by multi-sectoral groups such as Pag-Asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP), Samahan ng mga Taong may Kapansanan sa Bataan (SATAMAKABA) CBR, Inc. and Bataeno Federation of Senior Citizens Association of the Philippines (BFSCAP), Inc. It was made possible through the partnership and assistance of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Mrs. Marilyn C. Tigas, RSW.

There were group activities conducted at BTC such as Bataan Tourism Amazing Race for the PYAPs, Tourism Memory Game and Puzzle for the PWDs and Bataan: Then and Now for the Senior Citizens. These activities were conducted to broaden and deepen the knowledge and appreciation to what the peninsula has to offer. Additional to these, was the exhibit at the local tourism offices, which showcased their tourism products and the display of Festival Costumes at the BTC which was worn by the Miss Bataan 2016 Candidates.

The closing activity was the first provincial Tour Guiding Contest participated by the students taking up BS Tourism Management and Hospitality Management from Bataan Peninsula State University – Main Campus (BPSU), Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Abucay (Letran) and Philippine Women’s University – Balanga (PWU) held last September 30, 2016.

The objective of the contest was to discover new breeds of potential tour guides of the province. To cap it off, BPSU won first (1st) place represented by Mary Joy Layo, Kheana Jessica Austria and Dave Diamsay together with their coaches Ms. Leslie Jorge and Ms. Juliet Blanas; followed by PWU represented by Camille Veloria, Clyde Jaramillo and Mary Joyce Dela Rosa with their coach Ms. Frances Roselle Francisco and Letran represented by Nicole Ann Diuco, Chealsea Anne Tanada, Crystle Manalo accompanied by their coaches Ms. Donna Mae Serrano and Ms. Rushell May Dasay.

The one week celebration was ended by the heartwarming smiles and sincere happiness of every participant, as well as the life learning lessons encountered that will surely made an impact to the development and growth of the tourism industry. Indeed, Tourism is for everyone! #bataan
