Gov. Garcia eyes wind, solar power plants

Gov. Joet Garcia is aiming for wind and solar power as sources of energy and do away with fossil fuel amid skyrocketing oil price.

The Governor recently met with representatives of Citicore Renewable Energy Corp. led by Manuel Louie Ferrer to discuss solar energy power plants in Bataan-Zambales area like the Sunny Side Up Power in Mariveles town. Other power plants expected to join the fray for solar energy mix are the New Solar Power Plant in Hermosa, and Bataan-Zambales Wind Power Plant in Dinalupihan.

Gov. Garcia has been toying with the idea of switching to the new trend– renewable energy if only to avoid rising price of imported fuel. As a sort of jumpstart, the Provincial Government of Bataan is gradually using solar power system in some key facilities in the Bunker building, Bataan Peoples Center to name a few.

The Abucay municipal hall is now almost 95 percent solar-powered, according to Mayor Robin Tagle. Street lights in Morong town are also installing power system, said Mayor Cynthia L. Estanislao.
