Paguia attends 9th SAFE International Conference in Istanbul

Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training Services Dr. Hermogenes Paguia attended the 3-day 9th Sustainable Agriculture, Food and Energy (SAFE 2022) International Conference and Business Meeting held in Istanbul University, Turkey. He was paper presenter and moderator in the parallel session of agriculture and food category.

SAFE 2022, held from Oct. 17 to 19, had the theme “Circular Economy Implementation in Agri-food Energy Production for Community Empowerment”. Paguia said BPSU, as an institution through the leadership of university president Dr. Greg Rodis, is one with the vision of SAFE to generate substantial contributions to sustainable development of agriculture, food and energy.

A statement from SAFE also pointed out, “Climate change being one of the most complex problems of the food sectors today involves many dimensions- science, economics, society, politics and ethical context”.

It will be remembered that BPSU hosted, a couple of months ago, a one-day 2022 Climate Change and Sustainability Summit here gathering campus planning officers, sustainability officers, and other stakeholders to heighten awareness and efforts in dealing with the environmental crisis.

SAFE network is an organization of research institutes, educators, researchers, and scientists of universities, colleges and research institutes in Asia Pacific region.

The network works to build a sustainable cooperation and partnerships among the researchers and scientists in the field of agricultural sciences and engineering in the region. It serves as platform and avenue in connecting and educating people for a better economy, ecology and equity in agriculture, food and energy system.

Paguia also announced that BPSU has been approved to become a permanent member of SAFE network in the concluded conference.

The international conference was attended by SAFE members from countries in Asia Pacific region.

He shared the conference also built friendship and solid camaraderie among participants.

With the advocacy of SAFE to further strengthen the spirit of cooperation of the network members and incoming member organizations and individuals, the network has expanded its programs and services in the region, concluded Paguia.
