Tourists will soon drive or walk with ease to the world renown Mt. Samat Shrine in Pilar town, Bataan following the improvement and clearing of road in the area.
Pilar Mayor Charlie F. Pizarro said work on the seven-kilometer road had been going on for some time and still underway. “Well, actually this was requested by Bataan Gov. Abet Garcia from the national government to attract more tourists to the Mt. Samat Shrine of Valor,” Pizarro explained.
Additional lane is being constructed to serve as walkway or as bike lane.

The World War II memorial attracts local and foreign tourists during the commemoration of Bataan Day which falls on April 9. About 4,000 to 6,000 people from all walks of life troop to the Shrine to meet war veterans and their relatives and listen to the speech of President of the Philippines.

In 2019 no commemoration rites at Mt. Samat was held because of the pandemic. Last year, a recorded video of ceremonies attended by Bataan Gov. Albert Garcia and other local officials on the Shrines was played on the social media via Facebook.
